Not Guilty of Rape before Southampton Crown Court

Richard Gowthorpe has secured a not guilty verdict for a client charged with a serious allegation of rape before Southampton Crown Court.

This was an extremely difficult case that required significant attention to detail and careful case preparation. The allegation concerned a complaint by the client’s ex-girlfriend that he had raped her during the course of their relationship. The client denied the offence and maintained his not guilty instructions from the moment of his arrest.

The client, who had no previous convictions and who strenuously maintained his innocence, was understandably extremely distressed that such an allegation had been made. Richard therefore invested lot of time in ensuring the case was not only thoroughly prepared but that the client was supported throughout these difficult proceedings. This clearly paid dividends when the client was unanimously acquitted by the jury at Southampton Crown Court after a very short deliberation.
