Matthew graduated with a degree in Law with Politics from Keele University before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Chester. He joined Lansbury Worthington in February 2007 as a paralegal in the crime department and took up a training contract in 2008. He qualified as a solicitor in August 2010 and deals with all aspects of criminal proceedings from magistrates' court work, through to more serious crown court cases and extradition work. Highlights have included assisting in the successful defence of a client charged with multiple counts of historic child sexual abuse and acting as the police station representative for a client accused of seriously injuring and then kidnapping a pedestrian he had run over, with all serious allegations eventually being dropped without charge.
Whilst specialising in criminal defence, Matthew also has experience of civil litigation - including assisting on a false imprisonment claim in which our client received compensation of £11,000 and an ongoing Judicial Review application in respect of a decision made by a District Judge.
Outside of his work for the firm, Matthew is proud to have recently been appointed to the committee of the West London Law Society, and has also lectured to psychotherapists on the legal and ethical issues that can arise from treating clients who commit criminal offences.
Matthew speaks fluent Welsh.
