We represented Mr R who faced a very serious allegation of robbery of a pregnant woman whilst in possession of a knife. The parties were known to each other so identity was not in issue. Mr R had numerous previous convictions for robbery (some with a knife). As a result of a change in the law several years ago it meant the Jury were told about his previous convictions.
Despite the disadvantage of the Jury knowing about his previous convictions the prosecution case was challenged forcefully and in detail by our instructed Barrister, William Paynter. The Jury unanimously found the defendant Not Guilty and he was cleared of this allegation.
