A recent case in the High Court serves as a reminder of the importance of making sure all contracts are carefully drafted.
The case was surprising, mainly because it appeared unlikely that anyone involved in the finalisation of the contract had read it carefully. A crucial clause contained two obvious errors, one of which made the clause, as a whole, lack meaning.
When, therefore, there was a dispute over the contract (which related to a development in Westminster and was worth nearly £2 million), it took a trip to the court to construe the precise meaning of the relevant clause.
